Ambassador Birgelen on the recent attack in Tripoli

04.06.2019 - Artikel

As the German Ambassador I am deeply saddened and concerned by the death of four officers of the Lebanese security forces and the Lebanese army who were killed in a terrorist attack in Tripoli on the eve of Eid al-Fitr. The entire team of the German Embassy and I are offering our condolences to their families and friends and wish a speedy recovery to those who were injured. Germany stands with Lebanon.

With hope of peace and stability, we wish all Muslims a peaceful Eid el-Fitr. In the words of Federal Foreign Minister Heiko Maas: „Ramadan is regarded as a time for reflection and community. In particular, therefore, my thoughts are with the many people around the world who, this year again, have been unable to spend this time peacefully with their families because of war, violence or displacement.“
